A museum on the move

The Pyrenean Museum collections are of particular interest for those who want to learn more about the Pyrenees. They have been added to since the museum was founded and are now well-known throughout the Pyrenean chain and beyond.

Partnerships

A partnership was set up in 2013 with the Pays de Luchon Museum to organise a travelling temporary exhibition : "Les sports d’hiver s'affichent" (Winter sports in posters). Another joint exhibition project will be organised in 2014.

Initiatives

Many regional and international museums and archive departments are using items from the museum collections to illustrate their exhibitions or add to the study of their own collections.

Currently :

  • A study of the Harpsichord, from the Pyrenean Museum collection

ClavecinThe harpsichord kept in the museum collections belonged to Rosalie Borgella, the sister of Baron Louis Ramond de Carbonnières. Dating back to the 18th century, it is attributed to the instrument maker Silbermann. An agreement has just been signed (September 2013) between the “Cité de la Musique”, its Music Museum in Paris and the Lourdes Pyrenean Museum to carry out a full study of the instrument. After undergoing anoxia treatment at the Pyrenean Museum to eradicate insects, it will travel to Paris and the Music Museum laboratory.

  • Loan of collections to the Pays de Luchon Museum for the "Au fil de l’eau-Luchon, pays des eaux courantes" exhibition (Luchon, the land of running waters)
  • Loan of collections  to the Grande Lande Eco-Museum for the “Itinéraires de bergers” exhibition (Shepherd Itineraries)
  • Loan of collections  to the Musée d’Orsay for the "Gustave Doré" exhibition
  • Publication of museum collections: the drawings of Ramond de Carbonnières

In September 2013, the Lourdes Pyrenean Museum and Editions Privat signed an agreement for the publication in the “Domaine pyrénéen” collection of the book "Voyage à pied de Ramond de Carbonnières dans les Pyrénées" (Ramond de Carbonnières’ travels on foot in the Pyrenees), which is due to be published in November 2013. The author, Elisabeth Baron-Lenormand, examines Ramond’s artistic journey through the Pyrenees. The project aims to introduce the public to Ramond’s artistic work through his drawings, accompanied by a text that takes a fresh look at this figure from the Age of Enlightenment.
